Crawley shopping centre given new community centre
COMMUNITY CENTRE DESIGN FOR TOWN CENTRE
This simple design for a run-down shopping centre in Broadfield, Crawley, created a new community centre. The new glazed entrance provided space for a reception area and cafe, and linked together several separate, neglected and under-used buildings, allowing the centre to be operated from a central management office.
The community centre has proved to be highly successful, providing social and leisure spaces where people can come together for social functions that now include youth clubs, creches, nursery schools, wedding ceremonies, churches, evening education and exercise and fitness classes.
